Reapers Fire by Joanna Wylde

The club comes first.
I’ve lived by those words my whole life—assumed I’d die by them, too, and I never had a problem with that. My Reaper brothers took my back and I took theirs and it was enough. Then I met her. Tinker Garrett. She’s beautiful, she’s loyal, and she works so damned hard it scares me sometimes . . . She deserves a good man—one better than me. I can’t take her yet because the club still needs me. There’s another woman, another job, another fight just ahead.
Now she’ll learn I’ve been lying to her all along. None of it’s real. Not my name, not my job, not even the clothes I wear. She thinks I’m nice. She pretends we’re just friends, that I’ve still got a soul . . . Mine’s been dead for years. Now I’m on fire for this woman, and a man can only burn for so long before he destroys everything around him.
I’m coming for you, Tinker.

So many books, not enough time. Y’all should see my TBR. It’s insane. Nevertheless, there are so many I want to read.

Here are some I have at the top of my list.

Sebring by Kristen Ashley

Nick Sebring has issues. Born feeling like an outsider in his own family, growing up under the shadow of a brother who could do anything, Nick isn’t that great of a guy. But when this culminates with Nick lashing out to hurt his brother through the woman he loves, Nick turns inward and makes some decisions about the man he intends to be.

And as he does this, he falls in love and truly learns the man that he’s grown to be.
When his love is murdered right before Nick’s eyes, Nick knows he has to avenge her. He knows how he’s going to avenge her. And he has no qualms using Olivia Shade to exact that vengeance.

Olivia Shade has grown up on the outside of her family too. Her problem is that they don’t want her outside. They want her all the way in, right under their thumbs. She pays the price for seeking escape and learns her lesson—she’ll never see a dawn where she wakes up free.

Then she meets Nick Sebring, and even as she fights it, the hope that died years ago starts to blossom. She can find love. She can have a man of her own. She can be happy. She can be free.

Olivia hopes while Nick schemes.

However, as Nick peels back the layers of all that is Olivia Shade, he finds something surprising. He understands its fragility. He falls in love with its beauty. He seeks to protect it.

But he forgets to protect his Livvie from one thing: Nick Sebring.

Notes: Sebring is the fifth and final book in the Unfinished Heroes series and should be read in order. Also, Nick was introduced in the first book and I wanted to kick him in the face. Since then he’s popped up throughout the series, so now I’m dying to find out how he finds his own HEA.

Strong Signal by Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell

I was counting down the months until the end of my deployment. My days were spent working on military vehicles, and I spent my nights playing video games that would distract me until I could leave Staff Sergeant Garrett Reid behind.

That was when I met him: Kai Bannon, a fellow gamer with a famous stream channel.

I never expected to become fixated on someone who’d initially been a rival. And I’d never expected someone who oozed charm to notice me—a guy known for his brutal honesty and scowl. I hadn’t planned for our online friendship to turn into something that kept me up at night—hours of chatting evolving into filthy webcam sessions.

But it did. And now I can’t stop thinking about him. In my mind, our real life meeting is perfect. We kiss, we fall into bed, and it’s love at first sight.

Except, like most things in my life, it doesn’t go as planned.

HAPPY LEAP YEAR!!

I know it’s been a bit since I’ve blogged… gah… these past few months have been hectic. But I have been working, slow and steady, and I’ve been reading. So here are some of the things I’ve read recently that I’ve been head over heels for.

Forced into an uneasy alliance the two princes journey deep into Akielos, where they face their most dangerous opposition yet. But even if the fragile trust they have built survives the revelation of Damen’s identity – can it stand against the Regent’s final, deadly play for the throne?

Notes: This is the final book in Pacat’s The Captive Prince trilogy. The entire series is freaking amazing.. If you have not read, READ!

All he has to do is win the first few rounds, collect his stipend, and then it’s back to trying to live a quiet life…

Some Assembly Required by Lex Chase and Bru Baker

Everyone wishes they were dead when wandering the purgatory of a home furnishings store, but these guys actually are.

Benji Goss is the quintessential good guy. When his boyfriend dumps him and moves out, Benji obligingly keeps the cat—even though he’s allergic—because his ex’s new place doesn’t accept pets. He’s always joked the cat would be the death of him, but not in a way he expects when a feline mishap crushes him under a DEL TORO bookcase.

Snarky loner Patrick Bryant is in such a rut he barely remembers the life he used to lead. The last thing he recalls is being decapitated by a DEL TORO bookcase in a freak accident. As a spiritual CASA resident, he haunts the aisles of affordable Italian furniture, assisting fellow spirits in moving on to their final destinations.

When Benji appears in the CASA café, Patrick considers the naïve spirit just the man to cure his boredom. Benji’s relentless optimism chips away at Patrick’s sarcasm, making him question if there’s something beyond what he can see. But the heart is like CASA furniture—there’s always some assembly required.

Notes: A modern day romantic ghost story. I loved Benji and Patrick’s love story. It’s so much fun.

Genre: PNR, m/m romance, ghosts

A Forced Silence by Cate Ashwood

For paramedic Adam Carson, his world is lights and sirens and saving lives. Pressures at work keep him firmly in the closet, and life is too busy to contend with the complications that come with dating and relationships. When a familiar face from his past turns up where he least expects it, Adam starts to question whether or not there is room in his life for those complications.

The last person forensic pathologist Sam McKenna expects to see at pub night is Adam, the guy who made his life hell in high school. The attraction is instant, but Adam isn’t gay and Sam has no interest in pursuing him. Still, the leftover animosity from their teenage years isn’t enough to extinguish the lust growing between them. After both are called to the scene of a horrific murder, Adam admits he’s not as straight as he led Sam to believe and they seek comfort and distraction in each other’s arms. One night becomes many as the murder investigation intensifies, but when Adam is faced with losing Sam, he is forced to make a choice: to break his silence, or to give up everything for the job he loves.

Notes: This is a fabulous story of enemies to lovers and in the closet love. It’s a mystery and a love story and nothing here is easy.  The struggle in finding love and keeping it is intense and exciting in this book. A must read.

What I’m Reading

As I said the other day, I’m a reader. A reader first and everything else comes after. So I thought I’d share with you guys the books I’ve read recently that I absolutely LOVE.

The High King’s Golden Tongue by Megan Derr

high king

Prince Allen has trained his entire life to follow in the footsteps of his illustrious mother, who has made their kingdom one of the wealthiest and most influential in the empire. For the past few years he has trained to become the new consort of the High King. The only thing no one prepared him for was the stubborn, arrogant High King himself, who declares Allen useless and throws him out of court.

High King Sarrica is ruling an empire at war, and that war will grow exponentially worse if his carefully laid plans do not come to fruition. He’s overwhelmed and needs help, as much as he hates to admit it, but it must be someone like his late consort: a soldier, someone who understands war, who is not unfamiliar with or afraid of the harsher elements of rule. What he doesn’t need is the delicate, pretty little politician foisted on him right as everything goes wrong.

This is an expanded version of a short story that Megan Derr did for one of the MM Goodreads group Don’t Read in the Closet events. I loved the short story… I am absolutely head over heels for the full version. Action, adventure, love, and drama—this story has absolutely everything (you should totally multiply that drama by like one thousand). I’ve pretty much told anyone who will listen to read this book and I’m telling you—this is one of my all time faves and will remain so for-ev-ER! It’s a must read and read again.

(Up next The Pirate of Fathoms Deep—Lesto’s story—in the Summer of 2016)

Bayou Fairy Tale by Lex Chase

bayouModern day fairy-tale princess Taylor Hatfield has problems. One: he’s a guy. Two: he’s Sleeping Beauty, the most useless princess in existence. Throw in his true love, Corentin Devereaux, a huntsman descended from child-eating witches, and Taylor’s younger brother, Atticus—this generation’s Snow White—who tried to kill him. That didn’t go so hot.

For two years, Taylor and Corentin live their Happily Ever After. But Corentin is cursed to lose his memory every seven days, including his life with Taylor—a painful reminder that he can’t provide for the man he loves. Taylor insists Corentin has the strength to succeed, and when Taylor discovers a way to break the curse, he is more than willing to pay the cost.

When an enchanted blizzard devastates Corentin’s hometown of New Orleans, Taylor is convinced Atticus is to blame and grows desperate to find him amid the Big Easy turned frozen wasteland. Corentin believes Taylor is chasing a ghost while he chases the ghosts of his own past. Old tensions scratch open scars, leaving both to wonder if they have each other’s best interests at heart. The clock is ticking until Corentin loses his memory and the rabbit hole goes so deep they may never come out.

This author’s mind astounds me. I loved the first book (a mish-mash of twisty fairytales and insanity on a road trip) and I absolutely adore this second book. It’s fun, sexy, and heartstopping at times. I cannot wait for the next book Smile

Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley

ride steadyThe ride of her life . . .

Once upon a time, Carissa Teodoro believed in happy endings. Money, marriage, motherhood: everything came easy—until she woke up to the ugly truth about her Prince Charming. Now a struggling, single mom and stranded by a flat tire, Carissa’s pondering her mistakes when a vaguely familiar knight rides to her rescue on a ton of horsepower.

Climb on and hold tight . . .

In high school, Carson Steele was a bad boy loner who put Carissa on a pedestal where she stayed far beyond his reach. Today, he’s the hard-bodied biker known only as Joker, and from the way Carissa’s acting, it’s clear she’s falling fast. While catching her is irresistible, knowing what to do with her is a different story. A good girl like Carissa is the least likely fit with the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Too bad holding back is so damned hard. Now, as Joker’s secrets are revealed and an outside threat endangers the club, Joker must decide whether to ride steady with Carissa—or ride away forever . . .

Amazon | AllRomance | Goodreads

So you may or may not know this about me, but I am obsessed with motorcycle club romance. And In saying that, I’ve found myself obsessed with Kristen Ashley’s books (and not just her MC romance but everything). I can (and have) sit down and read an entire series in a week. This book, Joker and Carissa’s story, while only one of the four (so far) in the Chaos MC series, is probably my favorite. Joker with is quiet tension and Carissa with her wounded pride make for one hell of an explosion. And just sayin, the keying of the truck is one of my all time favorite scenes ever.

Unbreak Broken by J.K. Hogan

unbreak brokenRory Donovan’s life is a hot mess. His marriage is failing and he’s in intensive psychotherapy, working through the unfortunate side effects of memories from a childhood trauma. The only thing good in his life right now is his job—teaching photography to gifted high school students.

Harbor Patrol officer Bennett Foster is co-parenting his teenage daughter with his high school best friend Jessie. When he meets Addison’s teacher and realizes they’ve met before, he can’t get the sexy stranger out of his head.

Striking up a sexual-tension-filled friendship, together they must help an angsty teenager deal with a dying friend. Bennett must keep his little family from falling apart while Rory struggles to come to terms with his new reality. Somewhere along the way, most unexpectedly…love happens.

Amazon | AllRomance | Wilde City Press | Goodreads

This book is the third in the Coming About series and it’s my favorite. It broke me. Like seriously tore me down then built me back up. Rory and Bennett are spectacularly made for each other. But the story is about Rory’s discovery—of himself, of his past, and of his future. Gah! It’s so freaking fabulous! Again… it’s another one that I will read and re-read and then read some more.

In the Stacks

Many of you know that outside of writing (and the devilish EDJ), I have a side gig as a  reviewer. This is because I love to read—like LOVE it. When I’m not writing or plotting or being bored to tears at work, I’m reading. It’s that time to get away and escape into whatever worlds and lives I can become completely enraptured with. Not all stories meet my mark of memorable, but that’s the life of a reader/reviewer. That being said, I never give  up.

That being said, I wish I had more hours in the day. My range of genre is plenty expansive so my TBR is vast. So today, I’m going to share the books I’m looking forward to reading soon. Maybe if I share it, I’ll make myself tackle the TBR. Smile

Up first in the stacks of my Kindle library:
